Cervical Screening reported in Haiti

Cervical Screening Services reported January 2025

15 organizations reported data for 25 screening locations in Haiti


  • 100% of the reporting clinics have offered cervical cancer prevention services 
  • ~125,000 women have been screened by these clinics to date
  • 88% of the clinics report that they are currently offering cervical screening

               Reasons given for pausing screening 

               - inability to get HPV testing reagents into the country and 

               - gang violence

Cervical screening offered

  • 76% have screened with VIA (naked eye visualization)
  • 36% have screened with VIA (visualization with magnification, colposcopy)
  • 20% have screened with HPV testing of provider-collected specimens
  • 08% have screened with HPV testing of patient-collected specimens
  • 40% have screened with cervical cytology

Cervical treatment offered

  • 96% of sites offer treatment of precancerous lesions of the cervix
  • 48% have offered cryotherapy as a treatment option
  • 72% have offered thermoablation as a treatment option
  • 28% have offered LEEP as a treatment option
  • 28% have offered cold-knife conization as a treatment option
  • 36% have used hysterectomy as a treatment option
  • 12% refer patients to another clinic for treatment


HPV Vaccination

25% of clinics report that they have provided HPV vaccinations to Haitian girls (2 organizations)

100% of clinics report that they are interested in participating in an HPV vaccination program


Cervical Cancer

46% of clinics report that they currently track patients with invasive cervical cancer

  • 38% keep paper charts
  • 21% enter data into an electronic record
  • 08% report cancer cases to the MSPP
  • 33% of clinics report that they offer some form of palliative / comfort care to patients with invasive cancer
